1. Happy 2014!!

    January 13, 2014 by Lucylupop

Happy New Year – I hope your 2014 are off to a good start!

The beginning of the year is always a crazy time of year in our house. With the calm down after Christmas and New Years Eve celebrations, this year I also celebrated a milestone birthday, I turned 30! And to celebrate in true style, the Bakery took some time off, and we went to Vegas!

    Happy 2014a

This week has been back to work though, and finally getting to try out my new Christmas toy, my new Photo box.

    Happy2014b

As you many remember back at OCCPMU back in November, Karyn from Pint Sized Baker gave a great presentation on Blog/CakePop Photography.  I learnt A LOT from the presentation, and came away with alot of ideas.  Its seems I may have mentioned one or two of them to the hubby, as Christmas morning, this awesome new toy was waiting under the tree!

This is the Square Perfect 16 Inch Studio In a Box Light Tent Cube.  The pack came with two retractable lights, a camera holder and light box with 4 coloured backdrops.  It’s a perfect kit for my CakePops! In testing whether everything worked, it seemed someone thought they might be a better test subject than the Cupcake holders….

I tried to tell him that Ginger on a Red background wouldn’t work.

I tried to tell him that Ginger on a Red background wouldn’t work.

So with my first order of 2014 this weekend, it gave me a real chance to try out what the light box can do.  I was pretty pleased with the results….

Not bad for a first go hey…….

Not bad for a first go hey…….

The one issue I had with this was coordinating the backdrop with the CakePops.  This happened to be a coincidence that the CakePops just happened to be Black, White and Turquoise,  3 of the 4 colours of the Backdrops included with my Light Tent. For future projects I will definetly be investing in some different colour and texture backdrops.

Here’s to a good start to 2014 – Its going to be a busy year both professionally and personally, and there maybe afew changes coming up, but for now,

    Happy2014e

    December 1, 2013 by Lucylupop

Happy December 1st! May the Holiday celebrations begin….

With that said, we do still have some limited availability for orders over the holiday season, so its not to late t!o let us help you sweeten up your office lunch/party or any other event.  For more info on pricing etc, just email me at lucy@thelbakery.com or simply fill in my contact form.

  3. Orange County Cake Poppers Meet Up 2013!

    November 17, 2013 by Lucylupop

Last weekend, myself and 49 other amazing CakePoppers from Orange County meet up for the first Orange County Cake Poppers Meet Up.

This was an event organized by Kim of KC Bakes, along with the help of her Orange County planning committee Ella (LolliCakes by Ella),  Adri (MaskiPops by Adri) and Nicole (Bella’s Bakery & Bowtique).

    OCCPMU

So alittle background, Kim reached out to all her CakePopping friends on Facebook, Twitter and Instgram asking where she should host the next Cake Poppers meet up – after the success of the New Jersey event.

There was an overwhelming outcry for it to be held in California (which I was supper excited about), and I got the chance to get a ticket to the event! I never realized how many of us Cake Poppers there were in OC – the event sold out so quickly!

On Saturday morning, after getting lost in Garden Grove (thanks Google Maps!), I headed to Dougs Downtown Grill to be greeted by a SWAG bag, the most beautiful desert table, and lots of chatting and laughter.

Side note – it was hilarious to be greeted by Kim with the phrase “I know that accent!” – It seems I haven’t lost as much of my English accent as I thought!

The event was jam packed with events, starting with a general meet and greet and finally putting some faces to names, and meeting some of my CakePop favourites.

After lunch, Kim started the raffle.  So many amazing people donated raffle items, and the raffle contined all afternoon.  I was super excited to win the very first item, some Kitchen equipment from Bling Diva Design.

Next followed a focus group with Kip and Connie from BRP Box Shop.  They were also awesome enough to provide us all with a sample of their boxes, and I will definitely be putting an order together for some more boxes, when I can decide which colors I want!

Karyn from PintSize Baker was next to give a presentation on Photography.  I have to admit, I was alittle starstruck meeting Karyn, I have been following PintSized Baker and Dieters Downfall for as long as I can remember, and her blog pictures are amazing.  It was great to get advice from her, and to be able to get to know her alittle.

    IMG_3184

Next on the agenda, a presentation from Kim of KC Bakes, on the Social Media Best Practices! Kim’s brand is so strong on social media, so we were all getting advice from a pro!

    IMG_3185

The final part of the event was a panel discussion with an amazing Cake Pop panel. Karyn (Pint Sized Baker), Kris (kCreative), Pam (Cake Ball Love), Angie (O Pops by Angie) and Yuki (Creative Edibles by Yuki). All of these ladies have an amazing history of work, and it was great to be able to pick their brains on advice ranging from pricing to CakePop trouble-shooting.

    IMG_3195

As the event drew to a close, there were more photo opportunities, and Kris took the time out to sign copies of her new book, Pop Art. (go get a copy now!!), and of course some shopping!

    IMG_3252

Classic Cake Decorations kindly kept their store open for us after the event to get some all important CakePop supplies after a full day inspiration.  I cant wait to put these to good use.

    IMG_3251

All in all, this was an amazing event, Kim, Ella, Adri and Nicole did an amazing job, and it was so00000o great to meet so many talented poppers, either for the first time, or finally face-to-face.  I hope this isn’t the last one guys!!

  4. Meet Me Monday at KC Bakes

    July 13, 2013 by Lucylupop

This week I had the great pleasure of being featured as part of KC Bakes  ’Meet Me Monday‘.  Fans of my blog will know, I’ve been a hug fan of Kim, Jim and KC Bakes since I started working on CakePops.  Their stands are amazing, not only are the durable and convenient, the designs are pretty sweet too.

I’ve talked about my love of KC Bakes before on my blog (find it here), and many of my CakePop pictures in my Gallery feature her stands (Slight fangirl moment - My pink and white striped stand is the same design as also owned by Bakerella! )

  7. Experimenting in flavors

    March 5, 2013 by Lucylupop

Those of you that follow me on Facebook or Instagram, will have seen me very excitedly post this picture up a week ago.

    Bags

As some of you may know, over the last year I have been teaching Cake Decorating Classes at my local Michaels store.  This does also mean that I have a bad habit of wandering around the store afterwards to see if there is anything new or fun to try my hand at.  Which would lead onto these babys!

    The words ‘Limited Edition‘ clearly meant I HAD to buy them to try them out before they went out of stock, right?  Also, as much as I love chocolate, the idea of the candy melts having a different flavor was intriguing.  The final result was some simple, but yummy pops;

    Multi Pops

Although the base of these were simple white cake pops, each of the flavors were very different, so we’ll go from left to right:

    First off was the MarshMallow,

I have to start off by saying this was hands down my favorite of the 4, although I had a sneaking suspicion it might of been, due to my love of Marshmallows.  My kitchen actually smelt like toasting Marshmellows when they melting too, which was alittle weird, but in a good way.  They melted exactly like regular pops, and had a great consistency. However, the one thing I really liked about these, although they tasted like Marshmallow, they weren’t as sweet as regular white Candy Melts, they were just sweet enough.

    Marshmallow

    Next, Orange Creme;

Like the Marshmallow, the consistency of these melts were great.  Although these were ‘Orange Creme’, I felt like these had abit of a Sherbet taste too them.  I love the ‘nude’ color too.

    Orange Creme

    Key Lime Pie;

These were alittle more Sweet Lime than Key Lime Pie, however this the is flavor I have a million-and-one ideas of how to incorporate into different CakePops.  Tequila and lime CakePops anyone?

    Key Lime Pie

    And finally,  Raspberry Sherbet;

Whilst all of the melts had great consistency when melted, these were the easiest ones to work with.  The melted to a great consistency to easily dip the pops, which I was surprised at considering the color (I’m looking at you Red Candy Melts).  On a nostalgic note, the chips tasted like the pink chocolate mice you used to have as a kid, anyone remember those?

    Mice

Well these Pops had a similar taste.

    Raspberry

Overall, I was impressed with these Candy Melts.  Each of the flavors lived up to the flavor it was meant to be, each had a distinct smell of Lime, Raspberry, Orange or Marshmallow.  Based on my batch of test subjects (well my friends and willing taste testers), the Key Lime Pie flavor seemed to be the favorite, with the least left at the end of the night, but each of them were enjoyed.

For me, I will certainly be purchasing more of the Lime flavor, and experimenting alittle more with incorporating them into some more exciting flavor combo’s, and also some more of the Marshmallow, as I loved them so much!  Will there be anymore flavors in the future?  Based on this first batch, I hope so…..

  8. Because I’m a Dinosuar

    February 24, 2013 by Lucylupop

This post wasn’t inspired by this image, but when I saw this the same week as the themed CakePops, it had to be a sign.

    Pinterest Dinosaur updateSource

Well, CakePop Dinosaurs may not roar, but they can definitely help with a roaring stomach. (see what I did there? :) )   These Pops were made for a Birthday Party, with a Dinosaur theme Party.  The Pops themselves are are Chocolate and Vanilla Flavored, coated in Candy coating and decorated with simple Sugar Coated Chocolate Candies.

Along with CakePops, this order came with an order of simple Sugar Cookies decorated in a Dinosaur theme and bright colors.

  9. The LucyLuPop Bakery turned 1!!!

    February 3, 2013 by Lucylupop

    Welcome back!

First off all, I want to say a big Thank you to all the people who have been keeping up with this blog and my Facebook page, for both your patience (I know there have been very little updates recently), and sharing this with so many others and introducing me to so many other talented bakers across the web!

Back in January this little creative adventure of mine turned 1! I cant believe I have been lucky enough to be doing this for a whole year now, and been able to share my creative idea’s with you all.

    Turning 1

Sadly over the last few months, stuff going on in my ‘real’ world have meant that making CakePops and Cupcakes have taken abit of a back seat.  However 2013 is a new year!

Over the last few weeks I have been sorting through the building pile of new project pictures to update on the website, trying to decide where to start.  Alot of projects I’ve been working on recently have been based on things I’ve already worked on.  However there have been afew projects that have popped up that I got to play with over the holiday seasons.

    02-03-13 Christmas Images

Anyone following me on Facebook will have seen a peak at the amount of Hello Kitty projects I have been working on over the last couple of months.  I never really had any idea how huge Hello Kitty was until I made one order for a friend  A short image search later and I was amazed by the amount of amazing creations there are out there based on this theme.  I was even able to come up with afew myself.

    02-03-13 HK Collage

So here is a few brief pictures of some of the other projects I have been working on over the last few months, and here’s to a continuing good 2013 for everyone (Is it too late to be still be wising a Happy New Year? Well this is my first post of 2013 – so I say no!)

    02-03-13 - Globe Pops 02-03-13 - Rainbow Pops 02-03-13 - StarWars Cupcakes 02-03-13 - Under the Sea Cupcakes 02-03-13 Hat Cake

So whats new for The LucyLuPop Bakery in 2013?

This year I want to start as I mean to go on.  So over the coming few weeks and months there may be afew changes to the website (apologies in advance if this causes some disturbances), some new experiments with new flavours to add to the menu, and alot of new theme ideas! So watch this space!

  10. More character work……Hoops and Yoyo

    August 18, 2012 by Lucylupop

    Hi all,

First off apologizes for the radio silence over the last few weeks. Life has been a little bit crazy, and every time I’ve sat down to write a post, tiredness kicks in and jibberish ends up on the page! (shh all those people who are now thinking that its not anything new…)

I have lots of updates for this week though, starting with some new character work.

August is a busy month for birthdays, staring off with a very special Birthday. A first Birthday in fact. One year ago some friends of ours welcomed their son into the world, and time has defiantly flown by since then. So earlier this month we call gathered together for a sunny afternoon in the park to celebrate.

And of course there were cupcakes…..

The colours of the cupcakes are based on the Characters chosen for the theme, Hoops & Yoyo. Our friends have always been big fans of the characters, and we thought they would be a cute and different theme to go for.

So these were simple Vanilla and Chocolate Cupcakes, made with Butter-cream frosting, and all the figures are made from coloured Candy Melts.
