  1. More character work……Hoops and Yoyo

    August 18, 2012 by Lucylupop

    Hi all,

First off apologizes for the radio silence over the last few weeks. Life has been a little bit crazy, and every time I’ve sat down to write a post, tiredness kicks in and jibberish ends up on the page! (shh all those people who are now thinking that its not anything new…)

I have lots of updates for this week though, starting with some new character work.

August is a busy month for birthdays, staring off with a very special Birthday. A first Birthday in fact. One year ago some friends of ours welcomed their son into the world, and time has defiantly flown by since then. So earlier this month we call gathered together for a sunny afternoon in the park to celebrate.

And of course there were cupcakes…..

The colours of the cupcakes are based on the Characters chosen for the theme, Hoops & Yoyo. Our friends have always been big fans of the characters, and we thought they would be a cute and different theme to go for.

So these were simple Vanilla and Chocolate Cupcakes, made with Butter-cream frosting, and all the figures are made from coloured Candy Melts.

  2. Dora’s Table

    August 1, 2012 by Lucylupop

I never thought that being a decorating instructor would give me such a great opportunity to meet some amazing and amazingly talented people. A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Dora, the creative mind behind Dora’s Table, and her niece.

When Dora originally contacted me regarding the class for herself and her niece, of course I did some research and checked out Dora’s blog.  And I am so glad I did!! I have so many new recipes to add to my ‘To Do‘ list, now I just need to find the time to try them.  (or I hire Dora to make them for me).

Dora posted about her experience in our class here ‘Cake Decorating Classes in Orange County’

I just wanted to say a big Thank you to Dora for coming along with her niece, whom I totally agree is an immensely talented student.  At such a young age, seeing what she has already created from ‘self-teaching’ I cant wait to see the kind of creations are in her future!

For more information on decorating classes, either private or part of my running schedule at Michaels (the schedule for all classes can be found here), watch out my upcoming classes page, or feel free to contact me directly via our contact forms.

  4. Thomas the Tank Engine

    June 27, 2012 by Lucylupop

As promised, here are some pictures of the second project from my Birthday parties weekend. This project was a real blast from the past. Thomas the Tank Engine! I remember watching Thomas the Tank Engine everyday after school, and I’m sure my parents may have some of the trains in my old toy box. So, I was really excited when I found out kids today are still watching and still love it!

So, a belated Happy Birthday to Ian! I hope you enjoyed your party.

The Pops are Chocolate flavor, decorated with Vanilla flavored Candy Melts.

The Cake is also a Chocolate Cake, made with Chocolate Fudge Filling and decorated with Fondant. Whilst in this case the train toppers are actual Thomas toy trains (Thank you Ian for lending them to me), the tracks and other decorations are all made from fondant.
The track even goes round into the cake….

  5. Its’a me..Mario!….

    June 15, 2012 by Lucylupop

Afew weekends ago, was one hell of a crazy weekend here, I may have only just recovered! I got to work on two amazing projects, both which I will be sharing with you over the next few days.

This first one was for a Super Mario themed Birthday party. As abit of a geek myself, I LOVED working on this design and theme!
First on the menu, 1-up Mushroom Cake pops!

These are white cake cakepops, with all the decorations made from colored chocolate.
These are super easy to make, and a massive hit with the kids at the party (and the parents too!)

Every Birthday deserves a cake too right……

A Milk Chocolate Cake with Chocolate Fudge filling. As the cake was going to multiple layers, I wanted to try to make this look like a Mario level. All the characters were hand made from Fondant (bonus – they are all edible!)

  6. Up, up and away!

    May 18, 2012 by Lucylupop

    And we are back….

Its been awhile, the last few weeks have been one of those time when life gets in the way. So, The LucyLuPop Bakery was on a short break, but now we are back!

I’ll have alot to update you all with over the next few days and weeks, but first I need to get back to an event from back in March, and a very unique project.

Earlier in the year, I was asked to create some cupcakes for a Baby Shower with a twist. The very artist Mum & Dad to be had decided to create a Hot Air Balloon Mural in their nursery. The plan was to unveil the mural at the Baby Shower, and therefore the theme of the Baby Shower was Hot Air Balloons.

Both the pictures and cupcakes were to based on the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, which gave me the a great final idea.

Rather than decorating all of the cupcakes as balloons, I decided to make a full display incorporating the Cupcakes and CakePops.

The first step was creating Hot Air Balloon Cupcakes. Thanks to some brightly decorated CakePops, and some basket weave cupcake holders, we had a set of edible Balloons.

The next step was to create the picnickers watching the Balloon Fiesta! This was all created from Butter cream frosting and the figurines were made from Fondant.

As I knew as well as the baby on the way, the new parents has a adorable dog too, you may be able to see some of the figurines are small dogs sleeping on blankets.

I loved how the final full design turned out, and Mum & Dad to be loved it too. I was also lucky enough to get a sneak peak at the Mural before the Baby Shower started, and if any of the guys who worked on it happen to be reading here (Hi guys!!!), you did an amazing job!

Now its time to get back to the grind stone, I foresee afew cartoon characters in my future…………..

  7. Happy Easter!

    April 8, 2012 by Lucylupop

Happy Easter to all my readers out there!

I hope you’ve had an great weekend, filled with good food and lots of chocolate!

Things were all go over here at The LucyLuPop Kitchen, with an family Easter Cake, and some baby chicks on the menu.
All these items were made from a Gluten-Free Chocolate recipe, which I am happy to be adding to my menu options!

I loved that I got to work with fondant animals again, and these bunnies were a very simple design.

These are based on the Chick Cake Pops from Miss Bakerella herself.

Now, I am off to work my way through a crazy amount of good food, followed by Easter Chocolate!

  8. Hello Kitty Birthday!

    March 28, 2012 by Lucylupop

What little girl doesn’t love Hello Kitty!

    Source

So with this theme in mind, creating a Birthday cake for a first birthday meant trying some new fondant techniques to create my very own Hello Kitty.

This little cutie was to sit on the top of a Chocolate and Strawberry Birthday cake, alongside a Hello Kitty Themed smash cake for the Birthday girl.

    February 12, 2012 by Lucylupop

….and by that I mean earlier this weekend, about 10mins away from my house.

This has been one of my favorite new projects so far, I had so much fun making them! Being abit of a geek myself, its awesome when this gets to merge in with my love of baking. These were part of a Birthday Party for a Star Wars fan.

The CakePops are Chocolate flavored, and the Cupcakes are Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting.
